Sooner than expected with 就 — Chinese grammar (HSK 2)

Subject + Time + 就 + Verb (+ 了)

就 (jiù) before a verb signals that something happens early, quickly or right away, often translated as "already", "as early as" or "right away". It goes after the subject and any time word, immediately before the verb. It also links two actions closely: 你等一下,我就来 (wait, I will be right there).

Examples

他六点就起床了。
Tā liù diǎn jiù qǐchuáng le.
He got up as early as six.
我明天就回来。
Wǒ míngtiān jiù huí lái.
I will be back as soon as tomorrow.
你等一下,我就来。
Nǐ děng yīxià, wǒ jiù lái.
Wait a moment, I will be right there.
Tip: 就 never goes before the subject; 就他六点起床了 is wrong.
